RACHEL-Pi Performance Lag on Large Modules

Hello

I’ve been running RACHEL-Pi on a Raspberry Pi 4 (4GB RAM), and I’ve noticed significant performance slowdowns when using larger modules like Wikipedia for Schools or Khan Academy Lite. :innocent:

Pages take several seconds to load, and sometimes the system becomes unresponsive, especially when multiple users are accessing content simultaneously.

I suspect this could be due to limited RAM, SD card read/write speeds, or server-side processing bottlenecks. Would upgrading to a USB SSD or tweaking Apache/PHP settings improve performance?

Are there specific caching techniques or lightweight alternatives for serving large modules more efficiently? Checked https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=18705 Azure guide related to this and found it quite informative.

For those running RACHEL-Pi in community or school settings, how have you optimized performance? Any recommended hardware tweaks, software settings, or alternative configurations to ensure a smoother experience?

Thank you !! :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @nemoyen - I don’t think the slowness you’re seeing has to do with module size. Wikipedia for Schools is not a large module and both Wikipedia for Schools and KA-Lite will only call the resource you need.

I would check both the SD card being used and more likely, the WiFi being used. Can you attempt to add a router or wire into the Pi?
