Update on RACHEL-Plus Battery issue

Update on RACHEL-Plus Battery Issue

First of all, a sincere thank you for everyone’s support and understanding as we work through the battery overheating issue on RACHEL-Plus devices.

As we have mentioned, we believe that the battery issue ONLY affects units which are plugged into regular power and charging 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We are testing a firmware update from our manufacturer which they believe solves the battery overheating issue for RACHEL-Plus devices that are constantly connected to power. If all goes well, we expect to complete testing and make RACHEL-Plus available on our online store again with the updated firmware later this week.

We are also working on some options for those of you who have a RACHEL-Plus device. Once we have completed testing the firmware, you will have the options to:

  • Update the firmware yourself (we will post instructions)
  • Send your RACHEL-Plus device to us and we will update the firmware and send it back
  • Remove the battery and continue using RACHEL-Plus plugged into a power source
  • Continue using RACHEL-Plus as is but make sure that it is never connected to power for more than a few days at a time

We’ll have more details soon. Thank you again for your patience!

Best,
Nicole and the World Possible Team

Just wanted to point anyone who comes here that we have instructions on updating the firmware for existing RACHEL devices:

Update Firmware on RACHEL-Plus 1.0 (WRTD-303N Model)
Update Firmware on RACHEL-Plus 2.0 (WAPD-235N Model)

This firmware fix was supplied by Gemtek, the hardware manufacturer, and will keep prevent the unit from overcharging the battery if plugged in continuously (24/7 over many months). If the unit is not plugged in continuously then there is no problem that we are aware of. In any case, you should be able to use the device with confidence again.

The units we are now shipping have the firmware installed already. Thanks for your patience!
